SeibunLens Terms of Use (English reference translation)
Established: October 24, 2026 (Japanese version)
This is a reference translation. The Japanese version (https://zunovia.github.io/seibunlens-site/terms.html ) is the official version, and if there is any difference, the Japanese version prevails.
Article 1 (About these Terms)
- These Terms set out the conditions for using the app "SeibunLens" (the "App") provided by Sur Communication, a general incorporated association in Japan (the "Operator").
- A person who taps "Agree and start" on the screen shown when the App is opened for the first time (a "User") agrees that these Terms form the contents of the contract between the User and the Operator.
- These Terms can be read at any time in the App's "Settings" and at https://zunovia.github.io/seibunlens-site/terms.html .
Article 2 (Nature of the App)
- The App is a tool that reads the ingredient list on the packages of cosmetics and quasi-drugs and matches it against a dictionary of ingredient names. It is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any disease.
- Some ingredients may not be listed (carry-over ingredients, the components of a fragrance, etc.), and reading or matching errors can happen. Always check the label on the package with your own eyes and, where necessary, consult a doctor or pharmacist about the ingredients and whether you may use the product.
- The App does not evaluate the safety or danger of ingredients or products.
Article 3 (Fees)
The App is free of charge.
Article 4 (Feedback and product data)
- After agreeing on the App's screens, Users may send to the Operator confirmations and corrections of ingredient names ("Feedback") and information about products ("Product Data"). Users decide whether to send them.
- Users may send only transcriptions of facts written on the package (barcode, product name, maker, category, full ingredient list, etc.) and confirmations or corrections of ingredient names. Do not send advertising or descriptive text from the package, photos, personal information such as names or contact details, or information that infringes the rights of others.
- If the Operator determines that Feedback or Product Data violates the preceding paragraph, the Operator may delete it without notice.
Article 5 (Conditions for providing Product Data)
- Users provide the Product Data they send under Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication (https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/ ). Accordingly, the rights that Users hold in Product Data are waived to the extent permitted by law, and any part that cannot be waived is licensed so that anyone may use it freely, as provided in CC0 1.0. This provision cannot be revoked.
- The Operator collects the Product Data sent to create and correct an ingredient database for each product (the "Database"), displays it in the App, and may create aggregated statistics such as by maker or by type (not linked to any specific individual), publish them, provide them to companies, and sell them.
- The Operator decides whether to publish all or part of the Database or the statistics and on what conditions to provide them. Users are not paid for the publication or provision under the preceding paragraph.
- If you are under 18, get your parent's or guardian's consent before sending Product Data.
Article 6 (Prohibited acts)
Users must not:
- Intentionally send information that is not true
- Place an excessive load on the App or the Operator's receiving server, or send large amounts by automated means
- Analyze the App to extract the key of the receiving server, or send from anything other than the App
- Do anything that violates laws or public order and morals
Article 7 (Changes to or suspension of the App, and ending use)
- The Operator may change the contents of the App or stop providing it.
- Users may end this contract at any time by stopping use of the App and deleting it from their device.
Article 8 (Operator's liability)
- The results of reading and matching by the App may contain errors or omissions (Article 2).
- The Operator is not liable for damage not attributable to the Operator (natural disasters, failures of communication lines, failures of devices, etc.).
Article 9 (Handling of information)
The handling of information in the App is set out in the Privacy Policy (https://zunovia.github.io/seibunlens-site/privacy.html ; English reference translation: https://zunovia.github.io/seibunlens-site/en/privacy.html ).
Article 10 (Changes to these Terms)
- The Operator may change these Terms in any of the following cases:
- When the change is in the general interest of Users
- When the change does not go against the purpose of the contract and is reasonable in light of the necessity of the change, the appropriateness of the changed contents and other circumstances
- When making a change, the Operator sets the date on which it takes effect and, before that date, announces in the App and on the page in Article 1, paragraph 3 that the Terms will change, the changed contents and the effective date.
Article 11 (Governing law and court)
- These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
- For disputes concerning the App, the Nagoya District Court or the Nagoya Summary Court may be the court of first instance.
