SeibunLens Privacy Policy (English reference translation)
Established: October 24, 2026 (Japanese version)
This is a reference translation. The Japanese version (https://zunovia.github.io/seibunlens-site/privacy.html ) is the official version, and if there is any difference, the Japanese version prevails.
Sur Communication, a general incorporated association in Japan (the "Operator"), sets out how information is handled in the app "SeibunLens" (the "App") as follows.
1. Operator and contact
- Operator: Sur Communication (general incorporated association, Japan)
- Contact point for inquiries, complaints and consultations: info@surc.online
- We will answer without delay with our address and the name of our representative if you ask us.
2. Information the App does not collect
The App does not collect names, contact details, accounts, device identifiers, advertising IDs or location (the information that Google ML Kit, used by the App, sends to Google is described in section 6).
Photos and the full text read from photos are never sent outside your device.
3. Information handled only on your device (it does not reach the Operator)
- Photos you take or choose, the text read, the reading results and the results you corrected
- The App's settings and records of your consent
Text and barcodes are read on your device (Google ML Kit; the reading models are included in the App).
Photos taken from the App (the device's camera app takes the photo and saves it in a place reserved for the App) are deleted when reading is finished, and any that remain are deleted after one day. Photos chosen with the photo picker are only read where they are; the App neither deletes nor copies them.
The App's information is not included in device backups or transfers to a new device.
4. Information sent only when you agree
| Feedback | Product data | |
|---|---|---|
| When it is sent | When you tap "Send feedback" on the result screen and agree | When you tap "Provide this product’s data" on the result screen and agree |
| What is sent | The part of the text read that shows the ingredient / the ingredient names you checked, fixed or added / the type of feedback / the App version | Barcode (JAN/EAN), product name, maker, category and type, the ingredient list (with sections such as active ingredients and a mark showing whether you checked each one), the date read, the App version |
| Purpose | Improving the ingredient name dictionary | Building an ingredient database for each product and using it for matching and display in the App; creating aggregated statistics such as by maker or by type (not linked to any specific individual), publishing them, and providing or selling them to companies |
| Retention | Deleted once the Operator processes it; even if not processed, it is deleted after 180 days (the Operator's local copies are also deleted after 180 days). Ingredient names learned from feedback remain as part of the dictionary | Kept without a set period (to keep using it as a product database) |
| Withdrawing consent | At any time in Settings. Anything not yet sent is deleted from your device | At any time in Settings. Anything not yet sent is deleted from your device. Product data already sent remains as a transcription of facts on the package |
- The Operator's receiving server records the date and time of receipt together with the information sent.
- Anything that could not be sent is kept on your device and sent again the next time you open the App. If it still cannot be sent after 7 days, it is discarded.
- You provide product data under CC0 (Terms of Use, Article 5).
- If information that can identify an individual is included in what is sent, it is used only for the purposes above and deleted as soon as it is found.
- Because the App does not collect device identifiers, the Operator cannot tell which person sent which information. Requests such as deletion are handled to the extent we can identify the data by its contents (such as the product name).
- The Operator does not receive the records on your device (what you read, which ingredients you want to avoid, etc.) and does not provide or sell them to third parties.
- Ingredient lists in Latin letters (INCI names): for now, the App does not send feedback or product data for them.
5. Destination and information received through communication
- Feedback and product data are sent to the Operator's receiving server. The receiving server runs on the services of Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Workers, KV and D1), and the data is stored on that company's facilities.
- Because of how the internet works, Cloudflare receives connection records such as your IP address.
- To prevent abuse, the Operator's receiving server converts IP addresses into a salted hash (a form that cannot be reversed) to count the number of sends per hour, and that hash is deleted automatically after two hours. The IP address itself is not stored. The receiving server is also set not to store request logs.
6. Information sent by Google ML Kit
Google ML Kit, used by the App, does not send photos or the text read, but sends the following information to Google LLC for diagnostics and improvement (Google's description: https://developers.google.com/ml-kit/android-data-disclosure ).
- Device information (manufacturer, model, OS version, available machine learning hardware)
- App information (package name, version)
- A per-installation identifier (Google states that it is not intended to uniquely identify a user or device)
- Processing time, image format and size, input and output size, error types, etc.
Google states that it does not pass this information to third parties.
7. List of information the App sends
You can check what the App sends, where and why at any time under "What this app sends" on the App's first screen and in "Settings" (the same contents as sections 4 to 6 above).
8. Security measures
- Communication with the receiving server is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Only the Operator holds the administrative key of the receiving server, limiting who can handle the information sent.
- Information past the retention periods above is deleted.
9. Age
The App is intended for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, get your parent's or guardian's consent before sending product data.
10. Changes
When this Policy changes, we will announce it in the App or on this page. If we expand the information sent or the purposes of use, we will ask for your consent again.
